Ann Vickers

Chief Executive Officer

Ann leads the strategic direction of the company. She brings over 20 years of financial experience in a broad range of industry segments served by Charles River CFO, including life sciences and high technology. Her experience includes venture-backed emerging as well as publicly traded companies but her passion lies with entrepreneurial start-ups. She is an entrepreneur at heart and has enjoyed recognition as one of Inc. 500′s Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America.


Prior to founding Charles River CFO, (previously named AccountAbility) in 2003, Ann provided CFO services to life sciences companies including InfraReDx and Modular Genetics. Previous to that, Ann was the CFO of one of the Acordia companies and one of the subsidiaries of Cleveland Clinic. Starting her career in public accounting, she worked for 10 years in the audit divisions of Ernst & Young and Deloitte. She holds a B.A. in Accounting from the University of West Florida and is a CPA in Massachusetts. Ann was a CEO Forum member of The Commonwealth Institute for nine years.

Jack Sullivan

Vice President of Business Development

Jack leads the overall revenue growth and business development efforts for Charles River CFO. He brings over 30 years of experience leading successful startups and emerging businesses to meet and exceed aggressive growth objectives. Jack has held sales leadership positions at Verizon, ARAMARK and Rollins, Inc.  He earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business and his M.B.A. in Marketing from Anna Maria College.  


A Boston native, Jack enjoys time with family and lives just south of Boston with his wife Stacey and three children: Maribeth, Kaitlyn and Sean.  

Martha Stone-Martin

Director of Marketing  

As Marketing Director, Martha is responsible for our marketing and communications strategies, as well as overall branding and marketing tactics. She has over 25 years of digital marketing and project management experience working with small to medium businesses and nonprofits.  Martha leverages a deep understanding of technology to expand the impact and reach of our marketing efforts.  


Martha previously worked in large and small high technology businesses as a financial analyst and budget manager.  She earned a B.S. in Finance and Quantitative Methods from Babson College and an MBA in Marketing.  


Jennifer Harper

Director of Finance  

Jennifer is our Director of Finance and also provides outsourced accounting services to client engagements in the Nonprofit and General Business sectors. Prior to joining Charles River CFO in 2012, Jennifer was the Controller and Cost Accountant for Chemring Ordnance, Inc., a publicly-traded defense manufacturer for five years. Prior to that and also for five years, she was the Senior Accountant for First American Title, a publicly-traded company where she was also responsible for SEC reporting. For two years prior to that, Jennifer was a Staff Accountant at Hurley, Vickers and Associates, an FAO firm.


Jennifer received a B.S. in Accounting from Valdosta State University and she is an avid CrossFit member.   

Sally Allen

Director of Human Resources  

Sally brings 25 years of Human Resources experience working in software/high tech corporations and across a variety of industries and nonprofits for several HR consulting firms, specializing in serving organizations with fewer than 50 employees. Sally is a true generalist who can guide clients along the entire spectrum of the employee lifecycle. She advises clients in multiple functional areas including establishing an HR infrastructure, employee relations, policy definition, and implementation, compliance, benefits administration, compensation administration, new hire orientation, payroll, training, performance management, talent acquisition, and diversity & inclusion.


In addition to her professional experience, Sally earned a M.S. in Human Resources Management from Lesley University and a B.S. in Sociology & Business from Northeastern University.

Kevin Sarney

Kevin leads our Life Sciences Practice and serves in a CFO role for our clients. With over 20 years of experience in public and private life science companies and professional services.  He utilizes his experiences to assist companies in the preparation and completion of financial raises, public company readiness, financial controls, audits, SEC reporting and supporting financial operations from drug development through pharmaceutical product launches.  
Kevin’s professional career began in Big 4 public accounting.  He has held leadership positions at public biotech companies and private early-stage drug development companies.  Kevin has numerous experiences in assisting companies going public at Enumeral, Tesaro, Tetraphase, Karyopharm, and Genocea. Kevin earned a B.S. in business management from the University of Hartford, an MBA from Boston University, and an M.A. in accounting from Suffolk University. Kevin is a CPA in Massachusetts.

Gardner leads our High Technology Services Practice and serves in a CFO role for our clients. He has 40 years of experience in the high technology and communications industries as well as public accounting. Gardner has a diverse financial background and is experienced in taking companies public, SEC reporting, revenue recognition, raising capital, cash flow forecasting, mergers and acquisitions, business integration, and taxation.


Gardner has worked in privately held corporations as well as emerging and large public corporations. He has held leadership positions at BBN Technologies, Verizon, and Frontier Communications. Gardner is a CPA and a graduate of Hofstra University with a B.B.A. in Accounting and Bentley University with an M.S. in Taxation.

Rich leads our General Business Services Practice and serves in a CFO role for our clients. He is a senior finance executive with leadership experience at both public and private companies across a variety of industries including insurance, utilities, energy, and technology.  Specific areas of expertise include strategic planning, corporate finance, and enterprise risk management.  
With over 30 years of experience, including the most recent 15 years as a Corporate CFO, Rich has also been involved in a broad range of transactional activity including mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, and subsidiary IPOs.  He has a B.S. from Cornell University and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.  Rich also holds Certifications in Strategy, Finance, and Management Accounting (CSCA, CFM, CMA) and is an Adjunct Professor for the Gerrish School of Business at Endicott College.

John Gillespie

John delivers and manages CFO and outsourced accounting services for client engagements in the nonprofit and social enterprise sectors and is a key part of the senior team with responsibility for nonprofit business development, client management, recruiting, and marketing. With more than 40 years of experience working with over 200 pre-revenue to multi-billion dollar companies, including Acumen Fund, Ashoka, Barnes & Noble, Share Our Strength, Grameen Foundation, and the National Cooperative Business Association, John leverages his in-the-trenches CFO expertise to guide CEOs and boards on how to grow their enterprises in a strategic manner, implementing specific courses of action to improve the bottom line.


John has been featured in the Chronicle of Philanthropy, NonProfit Times, Entrepreneur.com, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and other publications. John received his MBA from Boston College.

James Crane

Practice Leader  

James leads our Tax Services Practice and serves in the CFO role for business clients who request ongoing assistance with managing and minimizing taxation. He has saved our clients hundreds of thousands of dollars in R&D tax credits. James also leads our technical accounting projects, specializing in complex areas including mergers & acquisitions, equity accounting, revenue recognition, etc.


James has over 20 years of broad-based experience in various industries serving small, medium, and large enterprises. Prior to joining Charles River CFO in 2014, James operated his accounting firm which provided tax, accounting, auditing, and CFO services to clients throughout the globe with a specific focus on Asia and Europe. James was originally trained in external audit at Ernst & Young. He holds a B.S. in Accountancy from Bentley University and is a CPA in Massachusetts.
